MANAGING SWEAT

How to manage sweat

While sweating is a natural body function, for some people who tend to sweat more, it can become a problem. Here are a few simple tips to help you manage your sweating:

  • Wear clothes that can ‘breathe’ such as those made from natural fibers such as cotton which let sweat naturally evaporate. Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes and synthetic fibers such as nylon or polyester, especially under the arm.
  • Alcohol and spicy food are known to trigger sweating, so minimizing your intake of these will help.
  • Daily use of antiperspirants will reduce sweating, so keep one of our products, either for men or women , handy for when you might need it.

MANAGING SWEAT

How do antiperspirants work?

While deodorants are designed solely to mask the smell of body odor, antiperspirants like the Rexona™ range of products work not only to get rid of odor, but to stop any underarm flow of sweat as well.

Antiperspirants work by preventing sweat from reaching the skin’s surface using aluminium salts. When you apply antiperspirant, the active ingredient dissolves in the sweat on the skin, forming a gel that acts as a type of plug to stop more sweat from being released. Antiperspirants that contain alcohol allow the active ingredient to dry faster and create a pleasant, cool feeling.

It might surprise you, but sweat itself doesn’t smell. Body odor actually comes from the minute feces excreted by the bacteria that live on your skin and feed on your sweat. This is a totally natural process. Antiperspirants contain antimicrobials that work to kill the bacteria and slow their reproduction, so you stay fresher longer. They also contain fragrance and skin conditioners that keep you smelling clean and your underarms feeling soft.
